Dilantin® - Fosphenytoin® - PTN
Specimen Collection Requirements
Preferred: Serum, one 7.0 mL plain red top tube (no gel)
Also acceptable (if serum/plasma is removed from gel tube within 24 hours of collection): Serum or Plasma, one 5.0 mL gold (SST) or 3.0 mL mint green (lithium heparin, PST) top tube
Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum: SST - 30 minutes and red top tubes - 60 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells as soon as possible. If collected in tube with gel barrier, remove serum or plasma from primary tube within 24 hours.
0.25 mL Serum/Plasma (0.60 mL minimum whole blood draw)
Serum/Plasma exposed to gel barrier (SST and PST) for greater than 24 hours, grossly hemolyzed specimens
AFTER SEPARATION FROM GEL TUBES/CELLS: Room Temperature (18-26°C): 24 hours; Refrigerated (2-8°C): 1 month; Frozen (≤ -20°C): 3 months
