Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

The glucose in this panel is a 1-hour glucose post 50 gm load.

Collect

Two full 4.0 mL lavender (EDTA) and one gray top tube

Handling

Refrigerate all specimens. The two lavender top tubes for blood type and antibody screen must be labeled appropriately. See Blood Bank Specimen Collection Guidelines. The glucose test must be done within 2 hours of collection, if not preserved with sodium fluoride (gray top tube). See Collection Tubes for Blood Specimens.

Preferred Volume

Two full 4.0 mL lavender (EDTA) and one gray top tube

Minimum Volume

One full 4.0 mL lavender (EDTA) and one 4.0 mL gray top tube

Rejection Criteria

Specimen too old, grossly hemolyzed, frozen, incorrect specimen container or incorrectly labeled
