A negative test does not exclude infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae. Test sensitivity 73% as determined by LHS, specificity 94%.
This test has not been evaluated on patients taking antibiotics for more than 24 hours or on patients who have recently completed an antibiotic regime. Streptococcus pneumoniae vaccine may cause false positive results. It is not recommended that this test be done within 5 days of receiving the vaccine. The accuracy of this test has not been proven in young children.
