ABO and Rh Type and Antibody Screen. Antibody Identification will be performed for all positive screens. An Antiglobulin Crossmatch will be performed for patients with positive screens when transfusion is anticipated.
Determination of ABO, Rh, and possible presence of antibody. Indicated for the preoperative patient with only a low likelihood of intraoperative transfusion. Also used to screen for possible maternal-fetal blood incompatibility.
Specimen Collection Requirements
Patient should have patient identification wristband at the time of phlebotomy. Correct identification of the patient is critical.
Adult: Two full 4.0 mL lavender (EDTA) top tubes Neonates <4 months: Two full lavender top microtainer tubes Pediatrics ≥4 months: 3-6 full lavender top microtainer tubes

Two lavender (EDTA) top microtainer tubes (Whole Blood 1.0 mL minimum draw). Neonates <4 months: One lavender (EDTA) top microtainer tube (Whole Blood 0.5 mL minimum draw)
Gross hemolysis, incorrect specimen container, incorrectly labeled or frozen
Ambient: 24 hours; Refrigerated: 3 days; Frozen: Unacceptable
2-24 hours for routine testing
