Urine Microscopy Only with Cult Reflex - UAMOR - UA

Guidelines

A urine culture is reflexed when either:
A. >10 WBC's per high power field are seen on microscopic exam
OR
B. >10 (Few or more) bacteria or yeast AND <4 (Neg or Rare) squamous epithelial cells per high power field are seen on microscopic exam.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

Males: Discard the first 25.0 mL of urine then collect without stopping the stream. Females: Spread labia while urinating.

Collect

Urine, sterile wide-mouthed container. The first morning urine is the preferred specimen, however any fresh random urine is acceptable.

Handling

Deliver to the lab ASAP or refrigerate immediately if specimen will not arrive to laboratory within 1 hour.
