Guidelines

The UroVysion™ FDA-approved assay is designed to detect aneuploidy for chromosomes 3, 7, 17, and loss of the CDKN2A locus in urine specimens from patients with hematuria suspected of having bladder cancer.

Specimen Collection Requirements

Patient Preparation

For purposes of obtaining the greatest yield of diagnostic material, collect a first or second-morning, clean-catch voided urine, mid-stream.

Collect

Urine (60 mL) mixed 2:1 with PreservCyt® (30 mL) = Total 90 mL

Handling

For use with the UroVysion™  FISH Collection kit provided by Legacy Laboratory Services: For detailed collection instructions: Refer to instructions included with the Legacy UroVysion™  FISH Collection Kit.

Note: Urine must be added to PreservCyt® Solution immediately after collection. DO NOT use any other preservative. Specimens should be received at the laboratory within 72 hours post-collection for optimal results.

Preferred Volume

60 mL urine (before adding PreservCyt®)

Minimum Volume

35 mL urine (before adding PreservCyt®)

Transport

Storage: Specimen should be refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C.

Transport: Maintain refrigerated temperature. If possible, use cold pack for transport, making sure cold pack is not in direct contact with specimen.

Rejection Criteria

Refrigerated specimens not fixed in PreservCyt®, urine volume less than 35 mL, specimens refrigerated for more than 72 hours, specimens submitted in expired reagents.

Stability

Acceptable: Refrigerated: 3 days (≤72 hours)

 

Unacceptable: Ambient (room temperature) or Frozen
