Your Impact

As a nonprofit health care system, Legacy Health relies on the generous spirit of thousands of people to ensure our community has access to compassionate, comprehensive, high-quality health care. Through the power of giving, we come together in our commitment to create healthier and stronger communities.

Your continued support has made the following initiatives and many others possible:

Randall Children’s Hospital

Project status: Complete
On February 26, 2012, Randall Children’s Hospital opened the doors to its new home, a brand new, state of the art facility carefully designed to meet the special needs of children and their families. Co-located with Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in NE Portland, the new nine-story, 334,000 square foot inpatient facility has the capacity to provide hospitalized children with the most advanced care currently available.

Hybrid Operating Room

Project status: In progress
Randall Children's Hospital and Legacy Emanuel are currently raising funds to build a new hybrid operating room, an innovative environment that will enable clinicians to perform minimally invasive procedures and more complex “open” surgeries within the same operative space. Legacy Health is currently raising funds to support the construction and state-of-the-art equipment for this innovative space.

CARES Northwest

Project status: In progress
CARES Northwest is a collaborative, community-based medical program for the assessment, treatment and prevention of child abuse. Coordinating experts in medicine, mental health, child protective services and law enforcement agencies, CARES Northwest ensures that children obtain needed professional services in one child-friendly location. Founded in 1987, the program is a collaborative effort among four of the region’s leading health systems — Kaiser Permanente, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Providence Health & Services, and Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel. The program is sustained and allowed to grow through ongoing donations from the community.

Visual Health Information System

Project status: Complete
Philanthropic donations enabled Legacy Health to purchase a Visual Health Information system, an innovative technology that allows physicians and physical therapists to tailor rehabilitative exercises to the specific needs of individual patients and then print out easy to follow visual instructions. The addition of this software has greatly improved the care and patient outcomes of rehab patients throughout the Legacy.

Health Literacy Tools and Techniques

Project status: In progress
Donations to Legacy Health are being used to develop new patient resources and to train our doctors, nurses and other staff to communicate more effectively with the patients and families we serve. Improved communication will help to ensure patients understand their current medical conditions and how they and their loved ones can care for themselves at home.

Simulation Education

Project status: In progress
Donations to Legacy Health funded the development of the Carl O Peterson Clinical Education Center, a leading provider of hospital-based clinical education in the region. The simulation lab within the Center provides clinical staff and teams with realistic patient care experiences in a safe learning environment.  Training often focuses on the use of new technology and innovative procedures, and ensuring staff are prepared to handle infrequent, high-risk events. Donations to the Center are currently used to purchase the latest simulation mannequins and related equipment.

Nursing Education and Training

Project status: In progress
The Nursing Excellence Fund has been established to support leadership training and continuing education opportunities for Legacy Health’s nursing staff. Contributions to support the career advancement and development of Legacy’s 2700 registered nurses ensure excellence in patient care throughout the system.

Robotic Surgery (Da Vinci)

Project status: In progress
Philanthropic support enabled Legacy Health to purchase its first DaVinci robot and evaluate its impact on patient care. As a result of this pilot, robotic surgery using this new technology is available in almost all of Legacy’s hospitals within the areas of gynecology, urology, and cardiology. Donations continue to support robotic surgery through ongoing physician training.

Prescription Assistance

Project status: In progress
As a leader in the provision of charity care, Legacy Health often cares for individuals who are unable to afford prescription medications. Our dedicated social workers are often able to link these patients to long-term prescription assistance programs, however this process can take several days if not weeks. To bridge this gap and ensure our patients are receiving the medications they need, community donations are used to provide these essential prescription medications to patients in need.

Healing Gardens

Project status: In progress
With the help of our donors, Legacy Health has become an international leader in the development of healing gardens. Located on every hospital campus, these tranquil settings are therapeutic retreats for patients, their families and visitors, hospital staff and the public. Donations help us maintain the gardens and provide therapeutic and educational programming to patients and the wider community.
