Continuing Education

Thorny Issues

Each fall, Legacy Devers Eye Institute sponsors the annual Thorny Issues in Ophthalmology conference to provide continuing medical education for eye care providers. The conference name is an ode to our City of Roses and to the challenging, controversial topics we address.

This two-day conference includes an all-day meeting on Friday and half-day on Saturday with named lectures: the William T. Shults, Chenoweth, Devers Memorial Eye Clinic and the EM VanBuskirk lectures. Legacy Devers Eye Institute has hosted Thorny Issues for more than 20 years. This meeting has traditionally focused on new, innovative, and controversial topics in ophthalmology and eye care.

The conference has grown into one of the premier meetings in the Pacific Northwest, attended by more than 100 eye care providers. Thorny Issues supports the mission of Legacy Devers Eye Institute of continuing education, ground-breaking research, and quality patient care.
