Washington County, metro-area police officers celebrate the holidays at Randall Children’s Hospital’s Holiday Party

The Oregonian and The Hillsboro Argus

Tuesday and Thursday, December 10 and 12, 2013

Seventeen metro-area police officers celebrated the holidays Saturday, Dec. 7, with patients and former patients at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel’s Holiday Party.
Miles from Molly-The Molly Thompson Memorial Fund has sponsored the Holiday Party for 13 years and it stems from the wish of Molly Thompson, a 4 year old patient who died of liver cancer in 1999. Molly, the daughter of Hillsboro Police Officer Mike Thompson, loved parties at the hospital and wanted her family to remember her hospital friends.
More than 500 children attended Saturday’s party including patients and former patients, whose hospital stays stretched for five or more days this year. Their families also were there.
Each year, Miles from Molly – The Molly Thompson Memorial Fund – sponsors the party. Santa and Mrs. Claus visited with children and elves distributed gifts. Kids also got to enjoy holiday crafts, face painting, holiday music and a photo booth.

Cool spaces: Awww-inducing teddy bear sculptures

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

“The children love the holiday trees so much. They take their minds away from everything they’re going through,” said Sally Kirchoff, in-kind coordinator at Randall Children’s Hospital. “They are genuinely happy to see this.”
People donate decorations throughout the year, including all the stuffed animals that are part of the tree sculptures, Sally said. A Fred Meyer designer made the stuffed animal trees.
Volunteers from Prometheus Real Estate Group decorated all nine floors of the hospital, Kirchoff said. Every floor has a tree and other holiday decorations on display, including elves and nutcrackers.
