Legacy Meridian Park ICU R.N.Patty Lee recognized for Comfort Quilts program
It’s been nearly 20 years since Patty Lee, R.N., at Legacy Meridian Park’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), sought out anyone who could sew or tie a quilt. Starting in a small space at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center and eventually moving to her own home, the ‘Comfort Quilt’ program was started and continues to this day by Patty, fellow retirees Connie Kelty, and Carol Koenig, as well as other current ICU nurses and outside community members.
“My dad was a doctor, my mom was a nurse – I always wanted to be a nurse – you know, I’d be in charge of the Band-Aids,” says Patty Lee.
Patty added, “We’re there for the patients but we’re also there for the families to help them work through their own concerns and thought and their feeling of loss.”
The program has earned Patty national recognition by The Daisy Foundation as a Daisy Award winner and as one of KATU Channel 2 News ‘Everyday Heroes.’
