Legacy celebrates its nursing staff during National Nurses Week

To all the nurses who show up each day at Legacy, we thank you and want you to know how much we appreciate you. This is especially true as we celebrate Nurses Week. We recently spoke to several nurses from Legacy hospitals and clinics to hear why they chose this profession and what fulfills them.

Nurses Week - Courtney Langston

Courtney Langston
Legacy Emanuel Medical Center

During Courtney Langston’s rotation through Portland area hospitals as a nursing student, one place stood out to her – Legacy. “I thought they were the friendliest,” she said. Courtney has been with us since her graduation three years ago, working as an operating room nurse at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

Nurses Week - Jose Cabellos

Jose Ceballos
Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel

Jose Ceballos initially joined Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in 2014 as an emergency room technician. It was actually a package deal as unbeknownst to him his wife accepted a position as a hospitalist at Randall. He eventually went to nursing school and today works in Randall’s emergency department.

Nurses Week - Chryssa Meeker

Chryssa Meeker
Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center

Chryssa Meeker joined Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center six years ago as a nurse in the progressive cardiac care unit and was recently promoted to a nurse educator. Since rotating through Legacy Salmon Creek as a nursing student at Clark College, Chryssa always wanted to work at the hospital because of the site’s culture.

Nurses Week - Ouidadad Erraji

Ouidad Erraji
Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center

Ouidad Erraji always wanted to be a nurse, but there were no nursing schools where she grew up in Morocco. She moved to the United States in 2002 and began studying English. By 2008, her dream began to take shape when she became a housekeeper at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

She began taking nursing classes, earning her CNA1 and CNA2. By then she was working in the Oregon Burn Center and neurotrauma intensive care unit. Today, she works at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center where she is an LPN in the complex discharge unit and will start nursing school in the fall.

Nurses Week - Kris Rein

Kristin Rein
Legacy Medical Group–Cardiology

Kristin Rein, a nurse at Legacy Medical Group’s cardiology clinic at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, came to us seven years ago after working at other area hospitals. She’s eyed a position at Legacy since graduating from nursing school and felt she had enough experience in her field of interest to join the team of nurses that help our cardiology patients.

Ryan Clark joined Legacy Medical Group’s cardiology department at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center, last August, excited to put her new bachelor’s degree to work.

National Nurses Week: Jamie Scott

Jamie Scott
Legacy Silverton Medical Center

Jamie Scott, who grew up in Woodburn, knew she wanted to work in her hometown once she graduated from nursing school. She spent the first two years of her nursing career at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center before coming home to Legacy Silverton Medical Center. She’s spent the past 14 years in Silverton working in the family birth center.
