These factors include exposure to toxins in the environment and lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise. Join Dr. Cynthia Aks, a board-certified general surgeon specializing in breast cancer with certification in integrative medicine, to learn about potential environmental risk factors. Dr. Aks will provide healthy lifestyle recommendations and steps that will cultivate wellness while also reducing cancer risk.

Are breast or gynecologic cancers hereditary? Dr. Cory Donovan and Dr. Gina Westhoff discuss how personal and family history can impact cancer risk, as well as the role of genetic testing and counseling. Dr. Donovan is a board-certified and fellowship-trained breast surgical oncologist. Dr. Westhoff is a board-certified and fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist. Both have completed the Intensive Course in Genetic Cancer Risk Assessment through City of Hope.

Make sense of the Three W’s: The When, Why and What of breast and cervical cancer screening. Hear from leading experts in both fields: Dr. Kari Thomas, a board-certified and fellowship-trained radiologist, and Dr. Julia Fehniger, a board-certified and fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist. Learn the different types of breast cancer imaging available, when to get screened, why breast density matters and what to expect after an abnormal mammogram. We’ll also discuss the relationship between HPV (human papillomavirus) and cancer risk, cervical cancer screening guidelines, Pap smears and HPV testing.
