Hip Replacement

Hip replacement

The hip is a ball-and-socket joint, joining the rounded head of the thigh bone with a socket in the pelvis. When healthy, both surfaces are covered with cartilage, allowing the bones to move smoothly against each other.

The word “arthritis” is often used to describe the loss of cartilage that forces the bones to rub together, causing pain and loss of function. During hip replacement, the surgeon replaces the damaged joint with a new, artificial joint.

Legacy features leading services for total hip replacement surgery. See the "total joint locations and providers" or go here to learn about our centers for joint replacement and find a doctor who is right for you.

Robotics-assisted joint surgery

For hips, robotics-assisted surgery offers many benefits. It allows the surgeon to remove less bone and precisely place the implant, resulting in a more natural-feeling hip and is an example of the advanced tools we have for total joint replacement.
