Six percent of hospitals nationwide receive highest ranking

(Vancouver, Wash.) The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced its 2018 overall hospital quality star ratings and Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash. has earned five stars – the highest rating awarded. Of the over 4,500 hospitals reported on CMS’s Hospital Compare website, only 293 hospitals achieved five stars, placing Legacy Salmon Creek in the top six percent in the nation for quality.

For its overall hospital ratings, CMS examines up to 57 key quality measures under seven categories: mortality, safety of care, readmissions, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging.

Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center met the standards in all of those areas and outperformed standards for safety of care, readmission and patient experience.

“This recognition means our patients can know they are receiving the highest quality of care here at Legacy Salmon Creek,” said Bryce Helgerson, Legacy Salmon Creek President.

CMS introduced its overall hospital quality star ratings in July 2016 to help consumers conduct side-by-side comparisons of facilities in their region and support them in making more informed decisions when choosing a hospital or health care provider.

“This honor is the result of years of intense focus on quality and patient safety at our hospital,” Helgerson continued. “It is also a testament to the dedication of our clinical leaders, physicians, nurses, clinical staff members, those who work behind the scenes and every employee who comes into contact with a patient.”

Beckers Hospital Review recently released the CMS findings.
