Last year, Legacy Health advanced practice providers (APPs) voted to join the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA). Since then, we have been actively engaged in labor contract negotiations with approximately 140 providers and continue to work in good faith to create a contract that is beneficial to all parties.

On Nov. 20, the ONA notified us that Legacy APPs voted to proceed with an open-ended strike, which will start on Dec. 2. We want to assure you that your health and safety will remain our top priority during the strike. We have several contingency plans in place to ensure a seamless healthcare experience for all our patients and visitors.

What is an advanced practice provider and what do they do?

  • Advanced practice providers (APPs) are highly trained healthcare professionals who work closely with doctors and care teams to diagnose, treat and manage patient care.
  • Our APPs include:

    • Clinical nurse specialists (CNSs)

I have an elective surgery, appointment or other procedure scheduled at a Legacy facility. Should I reschedule?

  • There is no need to reschedule. Our teams are prepared to care for you as planned.
  • Elective surgeries and other scheduled care are expected to proceed as planned. 
  • Your care team will contact you directly if any changes are needed.

If I have a medical emergency, should I still go to the hospital?

  • Yes, if you have a medical emergency, you should still go to a Legacy hospital.
  • For chest pain, stroke symptoms or serious illness or injury, call 911.

Did Legacy hire temporary staffing during the strike?

  • We have a multi-faceted plan that will ensure safe, high-quality care is provided to patients throughout the duration of the strike.

What should I do if I need a prescription refill?

  • Our pharmacy and all other care services remain fully operational.
  • Patients can continue to access all services, including entry, parking and facility access.
  • Mail-order delivery for prescriptions is also available at no extra cost for your convenience.

Will there be delays in test results, lab work or imaging?

  • No. We do not anticipate any delays in receiving test results, lab work or imaging due to the strike.
