For expertise in neonatal or pediatric transport, medical providers rely on the KIDS Team, a specialized service of Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.

Ready around the clock

Providers can just call Legacy One Call consult and transfer service at 1-800-500-9111. A trained placement specialist will connect you with either a neonatologist or PICU intensivist for a consult or activation of the KIDS Team. The team travels throughout the Pacific Northwest — from Alaska to Montana to California — and is ready for immediate activation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The KIDS Team mobile ICU brings the unmatched experience of Randall Children's Hospital directly to the child, by transporting critically ill neonatal and pediatric patients throughout the Pacific Northwest by ground and air. Our goal is to provide the same advanced level of care on transport that the child receives as a patient in one our critical care units.

The team is staffed by highly skilled pediatric and neonatal critical care nurses and respiratory therapists. Their extensive backgrounds include work in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Critical Care Unit and Children's Emergency Department, allowing them to maintain advanced skills and an understanding of pediatric and neonatal medicine.

The KIDS Team provides innovative treatments such as high-frequency ventilation and nitric oxide administration, for both neonatal and pediatric patients. These therapies are often used to stabilize patients for transport to Randall Children's Hospital for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) or cardiac surgery. We offer a mobile ECMO unit.

Each transport begins with a consultation between the referring physician and a Randall Children's Hospital pediatric intensivist or neonatologist. From patient assessment, to delivery of care, to completion of transport, the team and the receiving physician collaborate to ensure the patient receives the best and most advanced care possible.
