Your child’s recovery is a path you travel together. Our CARF certified inpatient rehabilitation program is designed to guide your child toward healing and helping your child achieve their best quality of life. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) is a private, non-profit international organization that establishes standards for quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services. CARF is a catalyst for improving the quality of life of the persons served.

Through our CARF certification, we are committed to:

  • Continuous improvement of service management and delivery
  • Diversity and cultural competence
  • Inclusion of the people we serve in development and application of our standards

We currently hold CARF certification for both comprehensive integrated inpatient rehabilitation and pediatric specialty programs. Our program has been CARF accredited since 1999.

Treating the whole person, and whole family

Every child’s condition is different, and every family has specific challenges and goals. We recognize not only the physical but also the emotional strain involved for all of you. That is why we take a comprehensive approach to caring for your child as well as their family.

A program that delivers positive outcomes

On average, our patients:

  • Leave our program being able to do more of their everyday activities compared to other programs in the nation.
  • Improve at a similar rate (1.4% per day) as other programs in the nation
  • Stay a similar period of time (26 days) as other programs in the nation (24 days)

Our families trust what we do and feel prepared to continue their child’s healing journey after their stay. In fact, 98% of families would recommend us to friends or family. That same percentage of families say they felt well-trained to provide care and inspiration for their children at home.

Care for the body, mind and spirit

Children, teenagers and young adults with impairments that make daily life difficult rely on our expertise to help them return to home, school and the community with a higher sense of confidence and well-being.

We treat children with a variety of conditions, including:

  • Brain injuries and disorders
  • Burns, limb loss, fractures, nerve disorders, cerebral palsy
  • Spinal cord injuries and disorders (any level)
  • Amplified pain syndrome, conversion disorder

Our patients require complex care from doctors and nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They benefit from at least two types of therapy (physical, occupational, speech, orthotic). In addition, some patients may need coordination of complex physical, psychological, cognitive, behavioral and/or social issues that will affect discharge planning. Technology that aids in breathing is needed in some instances.

A team of child experts

Every member of our team plays an invaluable role in your child’s care and treatment. You will be part of our decision-making process, and we will work with you to provide individualized services and resources.

At Randall, we bring together experts to address every aspect of your child’s care:

  • Recreational therapists
  • Child life specialists
  • Music specialists
  • School teachers
  • Social workers

Based on your child’s needs, we provide therapy six days a week, with Sunday reserved as a day for rest and family time. Although we provide full medical services, we will coordinate any medical needs with your current medical team, as well.

Located within Randall Children’s Hospital, the inpatient rehab center provides a private room for each child. We work with families to be close to their children while they are in the program. This might mean being able to stay in the room and in some cases, the Ronald McDonald House is on our campus. Please talk to your team for assistance.

Getting started

Call or email us for a preadmission assessment, which our doctors will do either in person or by reviewing your child’s medical records. Once approved, our admission coordinator will work to obtain insurance or other payment approval so that your child can be admitted as promptly as possible.
