The Swanman Perinatal Conference presents two days of lectures and discussions on current perinatal topics. This conference is held in honor of the first nursing director at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Miss Alice Swanman and features nationally recognized speakers, known for both their expertise in clinical management and contributions to perinatal knowledge.
The goal of the PALS course is to aid pediatric health care providers in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest, the systematic approach to pediatric assessment, effective respiratory management, defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, fluid bolus administration and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
In this classroom-based, instructor-led course, students learn how to use a systematic approach to quickly assess, recognize the cause and stabilize a pediatric patient in an emergency situation. During PEARS training, students interact with real patient cases and realistic simulations and animations to assess and stabilize pediatric patients experiencing respiratory and shock emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest. PEARS prepares students to provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until a child can be transferred to an advanced life support provider.
This course is designed to provide health care providers at all practice levels with the latest information from child life specialists. We will cover how to help pediatric patients and families feel more comfortable and in control of their health care experience in any practice setting.
The NRP course offers an algorithm-based approach to the immediate care and resuscitation of the stressed or sick neonate. Upon completion, participants will gain the knowledge and skills for neonatal resuscitation.
This four-hour course for the pediatric acute care nurse provides an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system and a review of respiratory deficits and why mechanical ventilation is needed. An overview of home ventilators, tracheostomy tubes, oxygenation, humidification and suctioning is provided. Hands-on practice with equipment is included.
The Playground discusses the unique challenges pediatric patients pose to emergency medical services (EMS) responders. These events are open and free to all EMS responders and are appropriate for everyone from EMR to CCEMTP.
There are multiple opportunities each month to participate in Grand Rounds at Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.
The S.T.A.B.L.E. Learner Course is designed to provide health care professionals with knowledge specific to stabilizing neonates during the post-resuscitation/ pre-transport stabilization period. The mnemonic S.T.A.B.L.E. was designed to help providers remember the actions required to stabilize an infant
The S.T.A.B.L.E. Physical Exam and Gestational Age Assessment supplements the S.T.A.B.L.E. Learner Course. Numerous photos, illustrations and animations make difficult concepts easy to understand. This assessment is highly visual, unique and based on the revised Ballard exam.
