Legacy patients with Cigna insurance
May 19, 2025
Dear Legacy Health Patient,
I am following up on a letter you should have received from Cigna regarding a new contract being negotiated between Cigna and Legacy Health that could impact commercial plans such as yours.
As of now, nothing has changed: Legacy remains in-network for your Cigna insurance plan. However, if Cigna does not agree to a fair and equitable payment increase, then your insurance coverage at Legacy hospitals and clinics will become out-of-network after June 30, 2025. Please note: The contract in negotiation excludes Legacy hospitals and clinics in Silverton, as well as Cigna Medicare Advantage Plans, which are under a separate agreement with Cigna.
I know and regret that this contract negotiation may cause anxiety and confusion. I am reassured by the fact that Legacy has had a positive, productive and long-standing relationship with Cigna. We have been in regular conversations with Cigna to discuss how Legacy has been experiencing rising costs like other healthcare systems across the country.
We have asked Cigna to pay its fair share of the cost to continue operating our health system. This includes a reasonable payment increase to partially offset increases in the cost of healthcare supplies and labor expenses.
You may have heard that we issued a notice of termination to Cigna. This is a standard step during contract negotiation that merely prevents the current contract from automatically renewing at existing rates.
While we have not yet reached agreement on a new contract with Cigna, both companies are still working collaboratively and intend to continue negotiating. We hope that Cigna will agree to a fair and reasonable payment increase before June 30, 2025.
To keep you informed, Legacy will provide frequent updates on the state of current negotiations at LegacyHealth.org/CignaContract. Please refer to the list of frequently asked questions (FAQ) for the latest information. If you have further questions, please contact Cigna using the phone number on the back of your member ID card.
Thank you for trusting Legacy Health with your health care. It’s our hope that we will continue to provide the care that you and your family deserve.
Sincerely,
