KIDNEY CARE FOR CHILDREN
Nephrology is the field of medicine that focuses on the kidneys – how they work and the problems that could impact them.
If you’ve noticed unusual swelling around your child’s eyes, face, feet and ankles, or your child has pain or burning while urinating your pediatrician may recommend a visit to a kidney and urinary tract specialist.
As a parent, you want to put your trust in medical experts with experience, compassion and a strong understanding of children. At Randall Children’s Hospital, we champion team based, family-first care. Our Kidney Team includes board certified doctors, nurses, a pediatric dietician, and a pediatric social worker. We partner with you to help care for your child and provide you with the unique medical, educational, social, and emotional services that your child and your family may need.
Rest assured our entire care team is sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of children and their families. Our specialists are trained and certified in kidney and urinary tract conditions (urinary tract disorders, kidney stones, kidney blockages and kidney cancer), and have their primary focus in pediatric care. Your child will receive the care plan that is right for their needs. Chronic kidney diseases are the specialty of our nephrologists, who can prescribe nonsurgical medical treatments.
Gain peace of mind with expert diagnosis and treatment of the following conditions:
*Our kidney team works in partnership with the Randall Children’s Hospital Pediatric Rheumatology Team, the only board-certified pediatric Rheumatology specialty group in Oregon.
A trip to the doctor’s office or hospital can make children and their parents a little nervous. Our care team is here to help and put all of you at ease.
We take the time to help you understand your child’s diagnosis, to understand the next steps which may include blood tests, urine tests, or imaging studies, and together we will fully explore options for treatment if needed. On the day of your doctor’s visit, you and your child will be surrounded by a care team experienced in working with children, young adults and their families.
Our doctors are board certified pediatricians and pediatric nephrologists, specially trained to evaluate and manage the treatment of children and adolescents who have kidney and urinary tract diseases.
