Legacy's Clinical Ethics Program
Decisions about health care for yourself or a loved one can sometimes be difficult. Our Clinical Ethics Program can help, by serving as a free resource for patients, family members and physicians when health care decision-making becomes a challenge.
The program's members are a multidisciplinary group of certified ethicists, medical and non-medical staff, and members of the clergy and community who have been trained to help address ethical dilemmas encountered in the care of patients. Read a description of the consultation process.
Individuals can help avoid the need for a consultation by communicating their treatment preferences on an Advance Directive. Healthcare providers can complete a POLST form as a way to communicate their orders for life-sustaining treatment. There are also education courses available for physicians in health care ethics.
For more information, contact the on-call Clinical Ethics Consultant by calling the hospital operator.
