Legacy Salmon Creek opens the 2023 Artist in Residence exhibit at the Cancer Healing Center

Vancouver, WA (Sept. 18, 2023)Media invited to Wild Around the Edges, The Healing Power of Words and Pictures featuring the art of Bija Gutoff at the Legacy Salmon Creek Cancer Healing Center

What: Opening of the artist-in-residence program featuring Bija Gutoff and Legacy Health Art Therapist Margaret Hartsook, who will speak on the importance of art in healing. Readings from the Words for Healing writing group will be shared.

The Legacy Salmon Creek Cancer Healing Center offers support groups, nutrition classes, yoga classes, and art therapy sessions. All services are free for people with a cancer diagnosis receiving care through Legacy Health.  


Why: Art therapy helps humanize the experience of a cancer diagnosis and the associated medical treatment. It provides the opportunity for creative expression. It integrates emotional healing during and after treatment and promotes post-traumatic growth and resilience.

Interviews available: Bija Gutoff, Margaret Hartsook, Dr. Cory Donovan, surgical oncologist, and Legacy Salmon Creek President Jon Hersen. 

When:  September 19, 2023, 5 – 7 p.m. (Program starts at 5:45 pm).
