2025-26 COVID vaccine information

Updated: Sept. 12, 2025

Many of our patients are asking how they can get their COVID-19 vaccination this fall. In August, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration changed its rules for who can receive the vaccine, limiting it to people 65 and older, those with high-risk conditions or patients who have a doctor’s prescription. New guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are not out yet and may take time to implement.

Vaccination remains a safe and effective way to prevent infection. As such, if you are seeking your COVID vaccination now, please follow these steps:

  • The state of Washington has created a new standing order so patients who wish to receive a COVID vaccine do not need a prescription.
  • Pharmacies in Oregon need a doctor’s prescription to give the vaccine.
  • Ask your pharmacy which vaccine they have before reaching out to your Legacy doctor so they can be sure to send the right prescription.
  • Insurance coverage is still unclear, so check with your pharmacy to see if there will be any cost to you.

We will share updated guidance on this page as it's developed.
