Dr. Lowder concerned that patients will be unable to access care

Mar 26, 2024 • As a provider and health care advocate in this community, what are your concerns about the ongoing negotiations between Legacy Health and Regence? I worry for my patients. I worry that they are going to be forced to find health care at other locations because they will not be able to access care through Legacy. I have been in the community for almost 20 years and have built long-term, meaningful relationships with my patients. I hear many of my patient’s concerns about being forced to “start over” with a new provider who does not have the perspective of history with them. I hear the stress and fear in their statements as they talk about this possible situation. Unfortunately, in this area there is a shortage of providers, both primary care providers and specialists. I worry that my patients are not going to be able to find alternative care in a reasonable time frame, which will have a negative impact on their conditions and overall health.

Mar 14, 2024 • As a provider and health care advocate in this community, what are your concerns about the ongoing negotiations between Legacy Health and Regence? The families that we care for will be left stranded to find care for their children. In many of our pediatric subspecialties, wait times are very long. We see these patients between two and four times per year. If they are dropped and can’t see their specialty care provider for their scheduled visit, it may be months before that child will be seen as the wait list for transfer of care is often over six months at other locations.

Mar 13, 2024 • As a provider and health care advocate in this community, what are your concerns about the ongoing negotiations between Legacy Health and Regence? I worry about access for patients. If Regence decides to drop Legacy from its network, there are so many patients that will have to find new primary care providers, and even without this change, it can take many months for a patient to get an appointment with a new primary care provider. I work in a rural community, and patients have very few options already. Limiting these even further would be untenable.

We remain committed to continuing our negotiations with Regence until we find a solution that ensures fair, equitable reimbursement for Legacy and protects patients access to needed health care at our clinics and hospitals.
