About Me:

Dr. Whiteford graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and later completed his general surgery internship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Whiteford finished his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Whiteford is an Affiliate Professor of Surgery at OHSU. He is an innovator and renowned expert in minimally invasive colorectal surgery including laparoscopic surgery and transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM, TAMIS). He is a sought-out teacher and lecturer, receiving invitations from the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and has lectured in over a dozen countries worldwide. Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision (TaTME), the newest form of rectal cancer surgery, was founded on research and clinical innovation at The Oregon Clinic Center for Advanced Surgery.
