About Me:

Dr. Kinast is the Residency Site Director and Associate Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship at Devers. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the Casey Eye Institute at OHSU and past winner of the Casey Eye Residency Faculty Teaching Award. His research focuses include medication adherence, medical devices, medication compounding, and patient satisfaction. Dr. Kinast’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the American Glaucoma Society (AGS). He is developing a smart eye drop adherence monitor with engineers from Oregon State University. He was awarded an AGS Mentoring for the Advancement of Physician Scientists Award based on an innovative eye drop delivery aid and eye drop bottle. His team has won an OHSU Biomedical Innovation Program Award for a novel tube implant. Training: Board-certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Kinast is a glaucoma sub-specialist and anterior segment surgeon at Legacy Devers Eye Institute. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Inteflex Program (combined B.A./M.D. program) in Ann Arbor, followed by internship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He completed sub-specialty training in glaucoma at Legacy Devers Eye Institute and OHSU Casey Eye Institute.

Way too long of office wait for preop, over an hour. Crazy. I know they are busy and want to help many but this was a bit muc. Survey was for postop which was handled very kindly by Dr. Kinast.

Dr. Robert Kinast was thorough in his exam and treatment plan. He saw me for a chemical burn to my right eye. He explained the results & treatment plan and patiently answered all my questions. Plan: follow up appointment in 2-3 weeks.

I see a few other providers at Legacy & pleased with all of them. This was my first visit with Dr. Kinast - I transferred from a different clinic outside Legacy. The visit for existing conditions went well, being our first visit with incomplete records.

Beginning with check-in, my interactions with every clinic staff member I encountered during my visit were 100% cordial and professional. Not to get too mushy or anything, but I feel fortunate that I lucked out getting assigned to Dr, Kinast for cataract removal. It's a comfort to feel confident about the competence of someone who's going to be poking sharp objects in and around one's eyes, don't you know. ;}

The only complaint I'd have is that the office needs more people in the reception area to check patients in. It can be ridiculously slow.

The office experience was excellent. The procedure for scheduling an appointment is unique, cumbersome, and inefficient. It took 3 - 4 attempts, and a complaint to the insurance provider to receive an appropriate callback and finally schedule the first appointment.

This clinic is chaotic. It is located in the foyer of a medical building where the only seating I could find was directly in front of the bank of elevators with so many people coming and going over 50% not wearing masks. I did find another seating area which was part of the same clinic but apparently I wasn't supposed to be there I was abruptly told by a tech. But I was allowed to stay.I had to wait 45 minutes before they even had a room available to start my appointment. Tech was rushed and running behind, the doctor was also very preoccupied and gave the impression he needed to be elsewhere. I would never return to this clinic or recommend it to anyone else.

Dr. Kinast is an eye and a lot of the questions in this survey do not pertain to this type of Dr. I am very pleased with Dr. Kinast and plan to have cataract surgery with him in a few months.

First visit -- substitute provider but he was just fine. I can't say whether I will recommend him because I saw him briefly, in an emergency situation and was fitted into a slot (maybe he skipped lunch to see me). Anyway, the provider was just fine and after more encounters, I will be better able to say whether he is as good as I think he is.

Dr Kinast was very busy to spend quality time with me. His Assistant was excellent, answering all of the questions I asked of him. He was very knowledgeable about the makeup of the eye and patient care.

I had several eye tests scheduled which took about 30 minutes. The appointment was for 9 o'clock and I was done with theTests by 9:30. But then I had to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes to see Dr. Kinast. I do not understand why I had to wait that Long. It should be possible to schedule the visit with the doctor closer to the tests. This inefficient scheduling gives a negativeImpression of the eye clinic at Legacy.

Just transferred to Regence. This visit was th most helpful information about my eyes that I've ever had. Will follow through with Dr Kinast'suggestions for further testing and help with what needs to be addressed to help my vision.

Overall, I've had essentially good experiences. Wait times have always been more than 15 mins. One time an assistant medical person forgot to inform the provider that she had completed her duties to me. The provider is a person who creates a comfortable and informative atmosphere.

Dr. Kinast gave me his full attention despite a very busy schedule. He was calm deliberate and reassuring in his exam of my eyes. He gave clear explanation of my condition and sound recommendations for next steps. I feel extremely well cared for.

As a new patient to the clinic and to Legacy, it could have been much better. My original appointment had to be rescheduled and I was told by the schedulers they could only send me information about where to go and when to be there through the mail. I still have not received my appointment information and it was yesterday. Basically I was only able to find it because I got an automated confirmation call that I happened to answer and it told me the provider's name. Then I had to search for the provider on the Internet and figure out what location he sees patients. Upon arrival I was asked to digitally sign three forms but was not offered the information that I was agreeing to have received. When I asked for a copy of what I was signing for I was given a copy of my signature but not the documents it said I was offered. When I asked the clerk about this she said it was posted all over the lobby. Then the clerk and their coworker had to dig through a couple of desk drawers to try and find the pamphlets that I had been asked to acknowledge receipt of, although I had not even been offered them. Unacceptable!! I realize most people will sign things and not ask about it but it should NOT be my responsibility to have to ask for it, especially when it is my health that is on my mind and not my privacy or my patient rights. Additionally the waiting area filled up quickly and there was physically not enough room to maintain a safe social distance as recommended by the public health officials. My experience with the provider was awesome! My experience with Legacy left me feeling like a commodity. Thank you asking.
