I have met this provider in-person once, to establish care and emailed through MyChart once for a referral. My original wait for the appointment was 6 months, which was cut to 10 weeks, due to a sudden opening and I was on a waitlist. I walked away from my initial appointment feeling unsettled and that I may have made a mistake selecting this provider as my PCP. She is capable but I found our exchange confusing, slightly off-putting, and a number of times since I have considered calling to ask if I would be allowed to change providers, but finding anyone to be your PCP is challenging and I want to be sure I haven't made a snap judgment. My second interaction was via MyChart to get a referral. Before writing I did my own research, found a provider, confirmed they were the correct place for my issue, and accepted my insurance. I wrote to my PCP and explained my request, the medical history that led me to need the referral (which was new information to her), gave her the referral-recommended document completion instructions, and asked if she wanted to see me or to just fill it out and notify me. Her response less than 24 hours later was one word, "Done." This is what I mean when I say she is competent. She is conscientious and efficient, which I appreciate, but I would also feel she is rather abrupt and I feel guarded and mildly anxious about anticipating a long-term medical relationship with her.I prefer the interim care provider Legacy assigned me to during the wait period for my first PCP appointment. I met with her a number of times in a short period due illness and injury, but a GoHealth urgent care branch isn't meant to be a substitute to a PCPs care. But I can't deny that I felt more comfortable with that provider.

My visit was for a physical so I was surprised that the provider didn't check my ears or throat during the visit. Maybe that isn't done anymore but with my last PCP that was always done. Other than that the visit was as expected.

The assistant, Katie, was very kind and caring. This was my first visit with Dr. Monroe and she was very friendly and made me feel very at ease. She pushed back on ordering an A1C online for me in response to a brief question from me. But when I came into see her and she understood my whole situation, she readily ordered the test. I think that was all appropriate on her part.

When I first got there the receptionist was trying to get me to sign a form that said I would be responsible for certain billing amounts because she had not gotten prior confirmation from my insurance company. I said I would not sign it so she offered to call them right then. I said thank you. I was a little confused on why that even had to happen. She then called me back to the window and said everything was fine.

I like having a conversation with the physician, like when I told her I wasn't taking calcium, I wish she would've said why I should be taking it or recommended something. Dr. Monroe is a fairly good listener; however she has not related very well to my needs the last two times I needed to see/talk with her. She was unwilling to refer me for a cardiac holder monitor because it was outside of the legacy system. Now I have to wait to see a cardiologist to have my irregular heart beats addressed. Then, when asking for a referral to a Rheumatologist, I had to wait several weeks to see Dr. Monroe, only to hear that she didn't feel it was necessary due to the X-ray results. Although I somewhat understand her reasoning, her approach seemed to be "It's just a part of aging and there's really nothing you can do to slow the progress, only to take care off the pain." I didn't sense a real desire to help.
