About our survey

Patient Guide to Patient Satisfaction Surveys and Ratings 

Legacy values the partnerships we have with our patients and their loved ones. We are committed to giving you the facts you need to make informed choices about your health care, and about the doctors and other providers who walk the care journey with you. As part of that pledge, we post our physicians’ patient satisfaction ratings online. 

To help you, we’ve written this guide for patients, family members and those thinking about visits with Legacy Medical Group providers.

About our survey
Legacy is focused on giving an exceptional experience in every care interaction. All ratings are given by real patients and verified by a leading company in the patient satisfaction field. To make sure that we are holding ourselves to the highest standards, we partner with an independent patient satisfaction company, PressGaney. National Research Corporation provides the technology to show ratings and comments on our doctor profile pages.

Who gets the survey?
The survey is mailed and emailed to randomly chosen Legacy Medical Group patients within a few days after their visits. Patients are asked to fill out the survey and give comments about specific aspects of care. We use this feedback to improve and add to the care we offer.

Do you post all comments?
We are committed to transparency. That means we post all feedback – whether it’s good or bad. But, we do not post comments that are libelous, profane, or those that risk the privacy of our patients.

What questions do we ask?
We use the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Clinician and Group Practice survey, which was developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality for use in hospitals and health care practices across the country. The surveys ask patients to judge how well their doctor communicated, listened, and showed courtesy and respect toward them.

We determine our star ratings based on responses to the below questions from the survey.

  • Did this provider explain things in a way that was easy to understand?
  • Did this provider listen carefully to you?
  • Did this provider show respect for what you had to say?

Why don't we see patient ratings and comments for every doctor?
Industry best practice is clear that more data gives a more accurate picture. That’s why we wait for a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys per provider before we post a rating.

Can anyone fill out a survey or post a comment about a doctor?
No. Only patients having an outpatient visit with a Legacy Medical Group doctor may be chosen to get a survey. The results are based entirely from patients who have been treated by the provider.

How is patient information protected?
Patient names are not displayed through the online ratings and commentary reviews. All personally identifiable information is removed before display.
