Legacy Health Celebrates Pride Month
June 17, 2022
June is Pride month. And that means you’ve likely seen the bold, beautiful banner colors long associated with the LGBTQIA+ community everywhere. And rightly and brightly so. Now hear what Pride means from various people at Legacy and how proud they are that Pride is a year-round state of mind here.
When I think of Pride, I think of living in a world without harassment or retaliation for being who I am. I want my peers of the LGBTQIA+ community to have their happily ever after and to know a better future is possible.
- Rook Bartz, Legacy Health Program Manager for Gender and Sexual Health
Pride to me means honoring those that have sacrificed their lives, those who have fought and continue fighting the fight, celebrating the victories, and last but not least, self-acceptance/self-love.
- Mel Rivero, Legacy Health Director of IS Applications
Pride is a time when my identity is celebrated instead of demonized. It's a time of community and celebrating the beautiful diversity of each and every one of us and celebrating our individuality as a collective.
- Sam Wardwell, Diabetes Services Clinic Assistant for Legacy Health
Pride means being proud of who we are, being out there and being ourselves. I want everybody to know members of the LGBTQIA+ community for who they truly are to help with prejudice.
- Madison Bush, Legacy Health IS Applications Analyst
"Pride to me means being able to be myself. For a long time, I hid who I was because of family and society, and I finally feel I am in a comfortable place in my life to live the way I want and truly be myself.
- Jesus Nunez, Legacy Health Toxicology Lab Assistant
Pride is the time of year to embrace and celebrate our queer identity and take a moment to reflect on what it took to get to this point. Not long ago, we couldn’t gather and express who we are as a community because it was illegal to do so. This is our time to remember that, yes, we have come a long way, but there is still further to go and that the only way we can do that is together and with LOVE.
- Ryan Hill, Legacy Health IS Applications Analyst
Pride means authenticity, gratitude and hope. I think of the LGBTQIA+ people who rose against inequity and faced violence, night after night, at the Stonewall Inn in 1969. They fought for their rights, my rights, and the rights of generations to come.
- Lisa Goren, Legacy Health Senior Vice President, Chief People Culture Officer
Pride to me means the ability to be who I am in a safe environment and feel supported by just being myself. It’s time to look at where we have come from and where we are headed. Just one person deciding to stand up to the injustice the LGBTQIA+ community faces make a big difference.
