Minh Nguyen

blue quote

As the older generation retires and step away, a younger group will continue with the same important work. While the work they do is the same, the ones that dedicate themselves to it are different.

Love of food brought Minh Nguyen to Good Samaritan

A love of food and an opening at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center’s cafeteria brought Minh Nguyen to the hospital 24 years ago. She recently reflected on her time at Legacy Good Samaritan and what the 150th anniversary means to her.

Tell us about your job here and how that has changed.

I’m currently a cashier in the hospital cafeteria. When I started, I was a host, serving mostly patients. Now I’m serving everyone that comes into the cafeteria. Nurses, doctors, volunteers, patients, family members, those are just a few of the people I get to see every day.

What makes Good Sam, Good Sam to you?

Good Sam is a place where everyone is welcome and treated well.

What does this anniversary mean to you?

I’m proud and grateful to be a part of an organization with such a rich history, especially in helping others.

What are some of your fondest memories of your time at Good Sam?

Reflecting back, some of my fondest memories were during the early days of the (COVID-19) pandemic. Everything was closed, schools, offices, restaurants, shops, stores. But here at the hospital, everything was going as usual. Everyone still showed up for work to take care of the patients despite the potential risk of contracting the unknown virus without a vaccine. That left a lasting impression on me.

What’s changed that really stands out to you and what’s stayed the same.

The people have changed, they come and go. As the older generation retires and step away, a younger group will continue with the same important work. While the work they do is the same, the ones that dedicate themselves to it are different.
