Legacy Salmon Creek Internal Medicine Residency Program

A department of Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center

Message from program director Dr. Riley:

Welcome!  I’m so pleased you are interested in our program. Southwest Washington is the best hidden secret of the Pacific Northwest, ninety minutes from the beach or the mountains, with rapid access to the spectacular restaurants of Portland and Vancouver. Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center in northern Vancouver barely peeks above the foliage as you approach from I-5, nestled among the trees and surrounded by the hills of Mt Vista, neighbors with the Vancouver Clinic and Washington State University’s Vancouver campus. It is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.

Do not be fooled however by the agrestic surroundings – housed within LSCMC is modern cutting-edge medicine at its very best.  The hospital itself has been consistently recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals (top 1%), including in 2020 and 2021.  It received the Patient Safety Excellence Award in 2021, vastly exceeds national averages in patient satisfaction, and is one of only eleven hospitals in Oregon and SW Washington to earn a 5-star rating, a feat it has repeated many times.  There is no friendlier team of providers, nurses, and staff working together to provide high-quality care.

Just across the street is Vancouver Clinic – Salmon Creek. Vancouver Clinic has existed for 85 years and continues to expand its presence across the region.  Caring for people – providers, patients, and staff – has long been its first priority.  Compassion is entrenched in its mission and values and manifested in its culture.  Vancouver Clinic is heavily invested in process improvement resources for continuous improvement and innovative care delivery strategies, always seeking new ways to provide better care.

The strong partnership between Legacy and Vancouver Clinic goes back decades.  Working together to provide the best residency experience that modern graduate medical education can provide is a natural next step in that relationship.  I look forward to working with a diverse, brilliant, and compassionate faculty team comprised of representatives from both organizations to help you grow during residency, even beyond what you currently think is possible.  It is not our intention to make you a strong primary care internist.  It is our intention to help you shape the world around you as a leader, an educator, a clinician, and a kind, compassionate, caring person.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions about our new program!

Sincerely,

Craig
