2025-26 COVID vaccine information

Updated: Sept. 23, 2025

Many of our patients are asking how they can get their COVID-19 vaccination this fall. In August, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration changed its rules for who can receive the vaccine, limiting it to people 65 and older, those with high-risk conditions or patients who have a doctor’s prescription. The Advisory Council on Immunization Practices, which provides guidance to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding immunization protocols, now recommends that individuals considering a COVID vaccine consult with their healthcare provider prior to vaccination.

Vaccination remains a safe and effective way to prevent infection. As such, if you are seeking your COVID vaccination now, please follow these steps:

  • The state of Washington has created a new standing order so patients who wish to receive a COVID vaccine do not need a prescription.
  • The state of Oregon has also created a new standing order as well and patients who wish to receive a COVID vaccine in Oregon do not need a prescription any longer.
  • While it is a good idea to check with your insurance to determine any out of pocket costs, COVID vaccines are expected to be covered in Oregon. Washington is reporting that most private insurance and Apple Health will cover covid vaccines.
