Legacy Health Advances Cardiology Care with First-in-Oregon Use of Innovative Technology

Building on more than a decade of cardiology innovation, Legacy Emanuel Medical Center brings cutting-edge, lifesaving technology with the adoption of the Affera mapping and ablation system.

Portland, Ore., June 4, 2026 — Legacy Health today announced a significant advancement in cardiac care. Legacy Emanuel Medical Center is now the first and only hospital in Oregon to perform a procedure using the Medtronic Affera Mapping and Ablation System with the all-in-one, dual-energy Sphere-9 catheter.

The system represents a new generation of treatment technology designed to address the growing and complex health challenge of atrial fibrillation (AFib).

AFib is a progressive condition in which the heart’s upper chambers beat out of rhythm, preventing efficient blood flow throughout the body. It is the most common atrial arrhythmia, affecting nearly 60 million people worldwide and associated with serious complications including heart failure, stroke and increased risk of death.

“Legacy Health has a long-standing commitment to advancing cardiology care through innovation,” said Dr. Manish Mehta, Cardiovascular service line director at Legacy Health. “Being the first to use the Affera mapping and ablation system ahead of any other healthcare system in Oregon, we are continuing our dedication to bringing leading-edge solutions to patients across the region.”

The system’s advanced capabilities provide new opportunities to treat complex patient heart conditions. In addition to improving AFib care, the technology introduces new ways to treat ventricular tachycardia and atypical flutters, among other arrhythmias. The system is unique in that it enables physicians to tailor treatment in real time, based on each patient’s condition.

Legacy Health has led the way in cardiac care for more than a decade. The health system performs more than 1,500 ablation procedures each year, using the most advanced tools and techniques available. This depth of experience, combined with an ongoing commitment to adoption of leading-edge solutions, enabled the cardiology team at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center to rapidly and successfully implement the Affera system.

Legacy Health continues to invest in innovative solutions that enhance patient outcomes, reinforce clinical excellence and ensure that communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington have access to the most advanced cardiology care available.
