Devers pair has eye on expanding horizons
Michelle du Bois and Caitlin Brown work together side-by-side at the Legacy Devers Eye Institute where they help patients with retina issues.
Brown and du Bois met three years ago while working for another eye clinic, so when du Bois anticipated another opening with Legacy, she encouraged Brown to apply.
Du Bois says she knew Brown would be a great fit. “What I picked up initially was that she was a super-fast learner with a great attitude and very sweet and kind to patients,” du Bois said.
Brown replaced du Bois as an ophthalmic retina technician, freeing du Bois to move up to becoming a ophthalmic photographer. She performs diagnostic testing and documentation of eyes through color photography, scanning, dye tests and ultrasound.
And Brown says she’s excited to be at Legacy where there is so much room for growth and learning. She’s excited to expand her knowledge of specialties beyond retina and into cornea and neuro-ophthalmology, to name a few, and to use the high-tech equipment Legacy Devers offers for testing and treatment. She also appreciates the philanthropic work that takes place to help patients of any income.
Brown started in mid-November and was glad to have a friend to “inundate with questions” as she learned the ropes. Du Bois recalls she saw potential in Brown, “The key is that she’s eager to learn more and expand her horizons and this job would give her those opportunities.”
The Legacy Employee Referral Program gives bonuses to full-time employees who make a referral that results in a successful hire. More than 200 referrals were made this fall.
