Legacy Health reaches new contract with UnitedHealthcare

Portland, Ore., September 30, 2026 - Legacy Health is pleased to announce today that it has reached a new contract with UnitedHealthcare, effective Oct. 1, 2026.

Under the agreement, Legacy’s hospitals, clinics, physicians and providers will remain in-network for UnitedHealthcare members, ensuring continued access to high-quality care at in-network rates.

“We know this process has been stressful for our patients with UnitedHealthcare coverage, and we are pleased to share that we have reached an agreement. Patients can continue receiving uninterrupted care at Legacy without higher out-of-pocket costs,” said Merrin Permut, Vice President, Chief Population Health Officer. “We are grateful to our people, patients and communities for their patience and understanding as we worked with UnitedHealthcare to reach a new agreement. I also deeply appreciate our caregivers and staff for their hard work supporting patients throughout this process.”

Health systems nationwide—particularly in Oregon—continue to face rising costs. Since 2021, Legacy’s operating expenses have increased 50%, while UnitedHealthcare’s payments have not kept pace, leaving Legacy to absorb more of the cost of patient care. This new contract recognizes the high-quality care Legacy delivers within our communities and while this does not completely close our financial gap, it more effectively responds to the increased operating costs and reflects a shared commitment and responsibility to our patients.

Legacy will be working with patients who are UnitedHealthcare members to minimize any disruption to care, including helping patients reschedule appointments or procedures that may have been delayed.

Legacy Health has created a website at LegacyHealth.org/UnitedContract to provide more information.
