Legacy Medical Group Welcomes New Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. James Mathis to Silverton

I treat patients how I’d want my family treated. I plan to be very available to each patient and support them throughout their recovery process.
Legacy Medical Group is pleased to welcome Dr. James Mathis to our Orthopedics and Sports Medicine services. He will be seeing patients throughout the Silverton community and surrounding areas.
Dr. Mathis comes from Grand Ronde Hospital, where he worked as an orthopedic surgeon for two years. Prior to that, he was on staff at Texas Orthopedic and Sports Medicine for more than 20 years.
He earned his medical degree at Texas Tech University School of Medicine and a bachelor's degree in biology from Baylor University. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago and then received additional training in joint replacement and sports medicine during his fellowship at the University of Texas-Houston.
Dr. Mathis said he is looking forward to getting to know the Silverton community and helping patients experiencing pain and mobility problems.
“I truly enjoy performing the orthopedic procedures and it’s rewarding to make an immediate impact on a person’s quality of life – orthopedic surgery can often provide a permanent fix to a problem. You can improve someone’s life drastically by taking away chronic pain,” he said.
The tools and technology in orthopedics also interest Dr. Mathis. “I was immediately drawn to the surgical field because I enjoyed the technical aspect of surgery. The technology in orthopedics is constantly evolving and improving our surgical outcomes – these advancements are fascinating to me.”
Dr. Mathis has joined the team at Silverton, where new patients are welcome. Legacy Medical Group’s Orthopedics and Sports Medicine offer total joint replacements, arthroscopic surgery, reconstructive and fracture surgery, sports medicine, and non-surgical interventions. Patients can be seen for any type of injury or pain, including joint pain, ligament or cartilage injuries, tendonitis, carpal tunnel and numerous other issues.
