About Me:

James Mathis, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and specializes in total joint replacement and arthroscopic, reconstructive, shoulder and fracture surgery. Patients may be seen for orthopedic injuries and pain, including joint pain, ligament or cartilage injuries, tendonitis and carpal tunnel. Dr. Mathis graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He earned a medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Mathis is fellowship trained in joint replacement and sports medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Prior to joining Legacy Medical Group-Orthopedics, Dr. Mathis cared for patients at Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande, Oregon for two years. For more than 20 years he served as an orthopedic surgeon at Texas Orthopedic and Sports Medicine.
