Legacy Good Samaritan's Inaugural Community Baby Shower Supports 30 Families

The Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center garden was transformed Saturday into something truly special: a place where new and growing families could gather, connect and begin building an extended Legacy Good Samaritan family.

The gathering was for the inaugural community baby shower where 30 local families enjoyed a day filled with celebration, support and a little bit of magic.

Designed to support Medicaid-eligible and low-income birthing families, as well as those who face barriers to accessing prenatal, postpartum, and family support services, the event was about much more than baby supplies. It was an opportunity to surround families with a community of people who genuinely care about their journey into parenthood.

Through the generosity of the Women of Good Samaritan and the Good Samaritan Foundation, each family received a thoughtfully curated newborn essentials kit filled with practical items to support both baby and parents during those important first months. The kits included feeding supplies, diapering essentials, infant safety items, and clothing to help families feel prepared and supported as they welcomed their newest family member. Birthing parents were also gifted a self-care package as a reminder that caring for themselves matters, too.

Throughout the day, families connected with community partners, learned about available resources, and shared in the joy of preparing for life with a new baby. Drawings were held every 15 minutes, treating guests to additional baby essentials and gear, including Pack ’n Plays, nursing pillows, and booster seats. Families in need of safe transportation resources were given vouchers for free car seats, connecting them to Legacy's Child Injury Prevention Program.

The heart of the event was the incredible group of volunteers, community partners, and the family birth center team, who came together to make the day possible. Volunteers were thrilled to uplift families in need.

More than anything, the inaugural baby shower was about creating connection. It was a chance for families to find support, build relationships, and know they are not navigating parenthood alone. Together, we began creating an extended Good Samaritan family — one that celebrates, supports, and walks alongside families long after the event ends.

The next community baby shower is scheduled for Nov. 7 at a location that is still being selected.
