A project that began in 2017 came to fruition Sept. 17 when Legacy Health opens the West Tower of Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. This new 330,300-square-foot, four story building is now home to Legacy’s new catheterization laboratory and Interventional Services Care Unit.

Legacy committed to investing in the West Tower project to fulfill the regional needs of patients that require care for complex conditions. This investment expands key programs and services, improves clinical efficiencies, improves safety, security, comfort, and, most importantly, saves lives.

“Our teams are excited about this new facility and what it means to continuing our commitment of caring for people in our community,” said Bahaa Wanly, president at Legacy Emanuel. “This was ten years of careful planning and work to bring this investment in health care to the region.”

The project's second phase, slated for completion in 2026, will be the new Oregon Burn Center on the third floor. Additional phases include lower-level surgical suites and future build-out of the second floor and remaining shelled spaces.

The new tower also brings with it new access points for patients and visitors to the Legacy Emanuel Campus. The current entrance at 2801 N. Gantenbein Ave. will permanently close. Entrance to the West Tower and hospital now becomes the current entry point at 501 N. Graham St., where the metal detection and bag search area exists.

Access to the emergency departments at Legacy Emanuel, Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, and the main Randall Children’s Hospital entrance will remain the same.
