May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Month. This year, Legacy's AAPI Employee Resource Group (ERG) is proud to share stories of leadership, resilience and identity in the workplace. Below are a few of those stories shared by individual members as well as a word from the AAPI ERG leadership team.

Lorelei Hosmillo, Nhi Nguyen and Kim Mayer co-chair the AAPI ERG at Legacy Health. This year, the three members share their perspectives on the national theme for 2025 AAPI Heritage Month: A Legacy of Leadership and Resilience.

Rachel Hanawa

Rachel Hanawa

Rachel Hanawa joined Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center 11 years ago as a certified nurse assistant, thus fulfilling her goal to serve her community. If you ever visit Legacy Meridian Park, Rachel might be one of the first people you meet as she helps guide people to appointments, hospital rooms or answers questions. 

For this month’s AAPI celebration, Rachel took some time to talk to about how she honors her culture in the workplace. She also provided insight on growing up in Malaysia and how that experience taught her to work diligently and embrace diversity in the workplace.

RJ Mariani

RJ Mariani came to Legacy at the suggestion of his wife. He’s now spent nearly four years as a patient access representative at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center. RJ is forever grateful for his wife’s advice. 

RJ recently shared some thoughts about his Filipino heritage and what the qualities of leadership and resilience mean to him.

Thoai Ha

Thoai Ha

Thoai Ha became part of Legacy four years ago as a certified nurse assistant. She now works in the medical specialties department at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center. Her arrival at Legacy Meridian Park initially presented a challenge for Thoai because she wasn’t used to working in such a large facility. 

Thoai, however, quickly immersed herself in the job and also made new friends. She’s now far more comfortable at her job. Thoai attributes her successful transition to her cultural background. She recently spoke about her cultural heritage and how it has informed her experiences at Legacy.
